Products: 9.8 / 10

Comments: BidsTick's site is pleasing to the eye. I like the simple color scheme. The site is simple and easy to use. BidsTick's support team is easy to contact via phone, email, and general mail. BidsTick offers some of the most unique products I have ever seen including: trampoline, moped, jewlery, refridgerator, and walk-in tub. The winning possibilities are endless! BidsTick has a customer support phone number; however, when I tried to reach them via their phone number the number did not have any support.

Bidding on the most desired? - Suggestions from Quibids

Going After the 'Big One'

Source: Quibids

Who wouldn’t like to win a Apple Macbook or a new Samsung LED Television for $24.60?  QuiBids offers this opportunity every day to its users.  What is the best way to win one of these auctions?  Here’s what we recommend:

Have Realistic Expectations

First, go into an auction with realistic expectations.  It is important to understand that the most expensive items also have the most competition.  Items that are over $1,000 in cost will often generate a lot of interest and bidding.  It is not uncommon for these items to have over 100 people bid on them during the life of the auction.  These auctions are high risk/high reward and they should be treated that way.  Winning these auctions with a small number of bids is possible and happens every day.  Recently, user SHILE06 won a Nikon D90 12.3MP DSLR Camera + Lenses with only 4 bids placed!  This is not the norm however.  Most users that win more expensive items have placed a significant number of bids before winning.  Feel free to try your hand at winning with only a few bids placed, but do so with the knowledge that the odds are small of successfully winning.

Homework Does Pay Off

Second, focus on an item that you would like to win and watch auctions containing this item.  There are many different factors that affect what price an item will ultimately sell for.  Many of these things can be learned over time by watching and observing.  For example, certain items will generate more competition and bidding at night than in the afternoon.  Savvy users are often rewarded for doing research before bidding on a large auction.

Focus on the Goal

A couple more tips before you get started.  Focus your bidding on one auction at a time.  Users who focus their attention on one item have a higher success rate and are generally more satisfied with their experience using QuiBids.  Also, go into an auction with a sufficient number of bids so that you will not have to leave the page to buy more bids while the auction is going on.  Finally, set a budget of how many bids you are willing to spend and stick to it.

What if I don’t Win?

We are committed at QuiBids to provide our guests entertaining shopping and great deals.  One way that we stand by this commitment is through offering the option to “Buy it Now”.  The “Buy it Now” feature allows you to use any bids that were placed during an auction towards the retail market value of that product.  It is our way of showing how much we appreciate your business.

We hope this helps you pull in the “Big One” and we’d love to hear from our users of other tips they have to help win the “Big One” in our comments section below.

QuiBids does not guarantee that using the above suggestions will lead to winning any auction.  The article above should be viewed as an opinion.

10 Tips for New Users on BidCactus:

Source: BidCactus

The following is a section of suggestions from the Bidcactus staff. They are not guaranteed strategies. If you have a tip or trick you'll like to recommend, please email us here.
  1. Before you get started, be sure to check out How Bidcactus Works and our FAQs section.
  2. Be patient and observe the site before you bid. Watch a few auctions as they come to an end and develop your own strategy.
  3. Don't spread your bids too thinly. Focus on one or two auctions at a time to maximize your chances of winning.
  4. It's better to bid late in the game. Wait until there are ten seconds or less on the clock before you place a bid.
  5. Watch for our slower times and take advantage of them. When everyone is off enjoying their morning coffee or stuck in rush hour traffic, you can walk off with great deals.
  6. Arm yourself with enough bids to win the item that you want.
  7. Always keep an eye on the number of remaining bids in your account and purchase more if needed. You don't want to run out of bids at an inconvenient moment.
  8. Look for hidden opportunities. If everyone is buzzing around the TV, then scoop up the $50 Visa card and splurge on something wonderful.
  9. Take advantage of the great Bidcactus promotions - refer a friend to earn 5 free bids, or join us for Happy hour Fridays.
  10. Have fun!!!

Penny Auction Software

If you take a look at my penny auction site list, you can see that there are a number of penny auction sites. So how easy is it to create your own penny auction site? With the number of companies offering auction script, it is fairly easy to create your own site. You can also write your own code, but considering the relatively low price tag for penny auction software, it might be better to purchase from the software companies.

Software packages exsist that will do most of the work for you. You can purchase software to create your own website in "minutes" through PHPPennyAuction.com. The standard package is just $749.00 and the professional package is $1249.00.

You can also purchase Penny Auction software at:
Microbidsoftware
Pennyauctionsoft

However, the first thing you will need to do before buying the software is buy a domain name for your site. At GoDaddy you can purchase a domain name for as low as $1.99 a year. You will also need to purchase web hosting and merchandising features to be able to accept credit cards. GoDaddy offers these services as well. If you have questions regarding those services you can contact GoDaddy's customer support team. I've worked with them in the past and they have been very helpful.

What is a penny auction site?

A penny auction site is a type of auction where shoppers purchase bid packages in order to place a small incremental bid (usually one penny). When the time expires, the last customer to place a bid wins the item and pays the final bid price. The price paid is usually 50-98% lower than the retail price.

Time Article - Quibids.com Penny Auctions

I came across a Time Magazine article today on penny auction sites, specifically Quibids.com. The article is a great resource for those who are new to the penny auction industry. Below is the news article:

Losing Your Cents

By Belinda Luscombe Thursday, Jun. 17, 2010

Mario0717 was going down in flames. Of that I was sure. If he wanted a fight over the Hamilton Beach True-Air Tower Ionic Purifier, I'd bring it. The purifier, which retails for about $100, was being auctioned at QuiBids.com just at that second for 14¢. Brazenly, I bid 16¢, before Kellyochico shot me down with 18. Mario hit back, with 20. Walker2197 volleyed with 22. But there was Mario again at 24. As soon as anyone else bid, he was all over it like mayo on cheap egg salad.

Clearly, I thought, Mario is a QuiBids rookie. He's playing this game wrong. The way to win at online penny auctions, the handsome ne'er-do-well offspring of Internet shopping and Internet gambling, is not to bid too often. Items sell for very small amounts, but you have to pay a fee — typically about 60¢ — each time you bid. And you can up the bid only a cent or two at a time. (See pictures of a grocery store auction.)

Here's how it works. Before you can participate in an online penny auction — which I'm going to urge you, right here at the top of the story, not to do — you have to buy a pack of bids. The smallest pack on QuiBids is $27 for 45 bids. Then you hit the auctions, where items appear to be selling extremely fast and mind-bogglingly cheaply: a $100 gift card for 16¢; a $150 knife set for $1.82; a $1,700 HD TV for $32.19. A clock counts down the seconds before these insane deals are gone forever. For anybody who finds a bargain even mildly stimulating, this is like pure heroin. In recessionary times, it's like heroin that will also save puppies.

The problem is that other people are bidding too. And each time you bid, that little 60¢ fee is subtracted from your balance and a bit more time is added to the clock so these other, very annoying people can try to beat you. Thus, even though you bid one whole dollar on an air purifier with only one second left to go, Mario0717, may he die in a fire, has time to outbid you by one lousy cent. This in turn makes you furious, competitive and reckless — all very bad emotions to have when an online merchant is holding your credit-card details. (See how Americans are spending now.)

QuiBids is not the only online penny auction or even the biggest, but it has grown the fastest, passing older sites such as Swoopo.com and BidCactus.com Launched in October in Oklahoma City, QuiBids has auctioned off almost 200,000 items and is already profitable, says co-founder Matt Beckham.

And unlike some penny-auction sites that use robot bidders to inflate prices, QuiBids is pretty respectable, according to Amanda Lee, a 22-year-old Minnesotan who monitors most auction sites on her blog, PennyAuctionWatch.com Despite QuiBids' questionable marketing techniques (like creating ConsumerTipsDigest.org which looks like a buyer's guide but is actually an advertorial), the company has a B — rating from the Better Business Bureau.

QuiBids obtains the goods it auctions from different distributors and retailers, and it gives losing bidders the option to buy those products at sticker price minus what they spent on bids. Beckham says that while the site makes money on big items and on packs of bids, it loses money on most things that sell for under $25. "But we keep those things on there, because we want people to have fun and win something."

I won a $25 pair of earbuds for 6¢ — a markdown, QuiBids let me know, of more than 99% from the retail price. But I spent more than $30 bidding on stuff I didn't win: a screwdriver, a Wii Fit, a tent, a watch, a cappuccino maker, a nonstick pan, an AV cable (apparently I'll bid on anything that's 14¢) and ... the air purifier. Mario got it for $4.84. Hope it chokes him.

Private Auctions - FAQ

Many sites offer private auctions (Biddingyard.com, eMaja.com, BidPigs.com). First, what is a private auction?

Private Auction:
Private auctions limit that amount of bidders that can participate in that auction.

How do you participate in a Private Auctions?:
Private auction rules vary site to site. At some sites it is free to participate, first come first serve if you will. At other penny auction sites you must use bids to secure a seat in the private auction. The participation cost might also vary auction to auction.

Why participate in a Private Auction?:
Since there are a limited amount of bidders, there are less members to compete with. Less competition means a great chance of winning.

Why should you not participate in a Private Auction?:
Private auctions usually attract experienced bidders. If you are not an experienced bidder, you should focus on open auction until you become experienced.
